Isle of Skye Holiday Cottage

Some tips for your visit to Skye.

Walking

An outing not to be missed in Skye is to Loch Coruisk – whether on foot from Elgol (beware the Bad Step) or by the long walk to and from Sligachan; or maybe take the easier route – by boat from Elgol.

For those with a sense of adventure, Whitewave Outdoor Centre is 10 miles north of Kingsburgh and offers kayaking and other activities.

Other destinations include -

Coral Beach near Dunvegan.

The Fairy Pools near Carbost.

The Quiraing near Staffin.

Highland History

A visit to Dunvegan Castle is a must. It’s rather easy to drive past Eilean Donan Castle on the mainland, 15 mins south of the Bridge, as it’s so close to Skye; but it's well worth a special visit.

Just 12 miles north of Kingsburgh is the small, but very special, Museum of Island Life and Flora MacDonald’s memorial stone, just a few minutes’ walk from the Museum.

Eating Out

The famous Three Chimneys Restaurant is the original fine dining on Skye and still the best; it’s an hour’s drive from Kingsburgh, but taxis can be arranged.

The Lochbay Restaurant in Stein is a 50 mins drive.  Michael Smith the owner was on the TV show 'The Great British Chef' on a few occasions.

Edinbane Lodge and the Edinbane Inn are quite a bit nearer – 30 mins away.

It's hard to beat the local option, the Ferry Inn in Uig - just 10 min drive.
